At our last assembly, it gave me great pleasure to announce the two award winners for the 2017 Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Awards.

These Awards started in 2006 to recognise students who demonstrate leadership and teamwork within both the school and the broader local community. At the same time, they recognise those who display strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others and “mateship”, characteristics that are integral to Australian society.

The awards are an important initiative by the Australian Government in conjunction with the Australian Defence Force, designed to encourage senior students – tomorrow’s leaders – to actively participate in the life of their schools and local communities. The number of schools participating today is over 2250.

Students are selected by their school based on the criteria.
Recipients of a Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award receive a certificate and a financial reward - $250 for a Year 10 student and $550 awarded to a Year 12 student.

This year’s recipients are fine examples of what these Awards recognise.

In Year 12 the Long Tan Youth Leadership Award Recipient is Maddison Wecker.

In Year 10 the Long Tan Youth Leadership Award Recipient is Patrick O’Brien.

Congratulations to our two worthy award winners!
