The St Joseph's College Board members include the Principal, the College Chaplain, the College AP-Mission, the Board Chairperson, the Board Secretary, two staff members and six parent members - including a person with a financial background.
St Joseph's College Board held its first meeting on the 19th November 1985. In January 1984 the Bishops of Queensland approved and recommended the Interim Constitution for Boards in Catholic Education. We at St Joseph's College follow the Constitution of the "Boards in Catholic Education" approved and recommended by the Bishops of Queensland. The Diocese of Toowoomba has its own Catholic Education Board.
The Board is a team who come together for effective shared decision-making. There are five main areas of responsibility:-
· provision (and maintenance) of college buildings and plant (Master Planning)
· policy making
· enrolments and curriculum provision
The Board ensures that the College fulfils its Christian Educational responsibility within the general pastoral goals and policies formulated by the Board for the College with the approval of the Diocesan Catholic Education Board.
Ten meetings are planned per year and the annual general meeting is held in November, each commencing at 7:00pm. To each Board meeting are invited two staff members and a representative from the Parents and Friends Association. At times special guests also are invited - student elected leaders and parents - to let them see how the Board operates or to report on some aspect of college curriculum or activity. In turn, a Board member attends the monthly meeting of the Parents and Friends Association to report on current issues and gain valuable feedback from that section of the wider community.
With the formation of policies, parent and staff input is actively sought and before the adoption of any policy a copy is provided for staff and parent comment.
By working through this shared wisdom process we strive to obtain the best for St Joseph's College.
